Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest children’s christmas project, run by the christian relief and development organisation Samaritan’s Purse.

The idea of Operation Christmas Child is to send out a message of hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and Christian literature. This program provides an opportunity for individuals of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on missions project that reaches out to suffering children while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas– Jesus Christ, God's greatest gift.

  • Find an empty medium-size shoe box - 7" x 12" (18cm x 30cm) is about right. Cover the box in Christmas paper making sure that you wrap the lid and box separately.
  • Decide whether your gift will be for a boy or girl. Pick up a sticker from the reception desk at church, and tick the appropriate box. Stick this to the outside of the lid - on the top right as you would a stamp on a letter.
  • Fill the shoe box with the gifts listed below. Do not wrap any items individually or overfill your box.
  • Secure the lid with an elastic band, and do not seal the box, as it will need to be checked to ensure it meets Customs requirements.
  • Don't stop at one box - fill another!
