Vicki shares her thought for the week; holding God’s hand.
Because of her age sometimes we can find that Carys will have trouble controlling her emotions, or perhaps sometimes if she’s angry about something or upset or confused. It’s those times that we’ve developed a bit of a strategy for how to help Carys stay focused and be a little bit more grounded.
One of the things that we do is to hold her hands as a physical way for her to remain still and focused on us as we help to bring her kind of a bit calmer. This got me thinking about hands in the Bible and I found a few verses which I’m going to read to you now.
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you do not fear I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13
Even though your hand shall lead me and your right hand shall hold me.
Psalm 139:10
Yet I still belong to you, you hold my right hand.
Psalm 73:23
I was shocked by how many times the Bible would refer to the right hand and so I looked into the significance of this. The right hand is considered a place of honour and status – we know that Jesus sits at the right hand of God. But the right hand is also about studying, strength and stability.
When I think about how we help Carys and how the Bible tells us that God holds our right hand, it really reminds us that when we are in those times when we’re feeling perhaps overwhelmed, worried, stressed, or even angry it’s God that will hold our right hand to steady us.
I don’t know what 2023 was like I don’t know if you brought a storm of 2023 into 2024 or maybe your 2024 started brilliantly but perhaps is now starting to feel like it’s unravelling or something has begun that has caused you to start losing your focus to feel overwhelmed but the Bible tells us that just as I will take Carys hand to steady her God offers his right hand to steady us. The interesting thing is that Carys has to be a willing participant in that hand-holding for it to work and the same applies to us.
God will offer that right hand he will offer to take our right hand to keep us steady in the storms of life but we have to be willing to take his hand and hold his hand to get us through them. Have a good week!
