Ellie Watson shares her thought for the week; obeying God’s road signs.
I am currently learning how to drive and with that, you have to take a driving theory test which got me thinking a little bit when revising for it. I was surprised by just how many different signs there were that you needed to learn! There are hundreds of different signs which you’ve got to learn before you can pass your driving theory test.
Why do we have road signs? Ultimately these signs tell us different ways to go, they give us warnings, they tell us the speed limit and they show us when there are hazards, but ultimately these signs are there to help us. And so as we journey through life we need to know it’s not a matter of just holding on to the steering wheel and hoping for the best, but we need to realise the dangers that can sidetrack us and maybe they could lead us on the wrong path. Knowing and watching out for these dangers and being willing to follow the right path will give us joy in this life and eternal life with Jesus.
Road signs are ways that they can communicate with the driver and God’s Word is full of road signs indicating when to go or when to stop or maybe when to slow down. And just as we need to obey the road signs when driving we also need to obey God’s road signs that are found throughout the Bible. In life, we may feel like we’ve got loads of different signs like whether we should take that job or maybe where we should live or maybe should we be friends with that person. We can sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed with the amount of different options, but like these signs are there to help us and so is God.
The Lord Himself goes before you, He will be with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.
Deuteronomy 31:8
So God has gone before us and He’s done this journey ahead of us, He knows what is around the next bend so we can be confident in following God’s road signs that our life will be eternal with Him.
