Aaron shares his thought for the week; Jesus the cornerstone.
Historically, the cornerstone was the most important part of any building. The cornerstone had to be selected very carefully and careful measurement had to be taken when it was being placed. The reason why it was so important that careful measurement was taken when the cornerstone was being placed in the building is that every other stone in the building would be placed in reference to that cornerstone. And so if that cornerstone was slightly off, then as the building was built, the whole building could end up out of whack because the cornerstone wasn’t placed intentionally, it wasn’t placed correctly and measured properly.
Now the Bible describes Jesus as the cornerstone, it says he’s the chief cornerstone and the one that we should build our lives upon. And without Jesus as the chief cornerstone in our lives, as we continue to build what we’re building, we’ll actually end up finding that our building ends up out of whack, misshapen, because he’s not the cornerstone. The thing that surprises me when I think about Jesus being the cornerstone is that he is the first thing that we must lay in our lives. He’s the most important thing that we have to get right. And so as I think about families, as I think about church, as I think about our nation, I’m thinking about where’s Jesus? Is he the cornerstone of these things that we’re building? Is he the cornerstone?
So I’d love to challenge us to evaluate and just to take a moment this morning or this afternoon, wherever you find yourself during the day watching this video, to think, “Jesus, are you the cornerstone? And if not, do I need to start things over because Jesus has to be placed first?”
Lord Jesus, I thank you so much that Scripture says that you are the chief cornerstone. And so Lord, I pray that you would help us to see the areas in our lives, Lord, where we have not placed you as the foundation, or as the first stone to be placed. And so Lord, I thank you that you are the priority, you are the reward, and Lord, I just ask that you’d help us to build upon you and not on other things that will fail. In Jesus name, Amen.
