Milly shares her thought from the week from Sierra Leone; Hope – The Train of His Robe.
A very simple definition of how is the belief that the future will be better than the present. While faith stands for something specific, we have faith that something specific would happen or that God would solve a problem in a particular way, how is the belief that even if a situation doesn’t work out in the way we want it to, things will still be okay? Hope says “I don’t know how God is going to do this, but He is going to do something”. So even when the situation doesn’t appear to work at all, Romans 8:28 says:
Ultimately all things work together for good to them that love God to them that are called according to his purpose.

So where does our hope lie? Isaiah 6:1 reads:
In the year that kings I had died, I saw the Lord sitting on the throne high and lifted up, and the train of his robe filled the temple.

The image of the train of his robe filling the temple is taken from the practice of ancient near eastern kings. It does appear to be the case because history tells us that the great kings of Egypt and Xeria for example usually wore elaborate flowing robes. And when a king defeated the army of another king, it would cut off a piece of the robe of the defeated king and sew it onto the train of his and robe. And so the more battles he won, the longer and more glorious the train of his robe became.
Well, King Jesus is seated on the throne, I and lifted up in all majesty and glory, and the train of his robe is so long, so wide it fills the entire temple. Jesus has defeated every enemy, he won the ultimate victory on the cross. He defeated all principalities and all powers. They are under his feet. He has defeated every trial, every tabulation that comes against you. And you are seated with him in heavenly places. You are more than a conqueror. What great comfort there is in knowing Jesus has already defeated the enemy. This is where our hope lies. No matter what calamity we may face, may we behold the Lord upon His throne, high and lifted up with the train of His robe completely filling the temple. And so as you navigate your way through 2023, may the God of Hope fill you with our joy and peace as you trust in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
