Alone With God – Thought For The Week

Ellie shares her thought for the week; alone with God.

I wonder if you’ve ever played a game of Sleeping Lions? If you have, then you know that the aim of the game is to lie down and try and be as quiet and still as possible. I think we find this so difficult to do!

I’ve been challenging myself recently to be silent and spend alone time before God. When we take the youth to a limitless festival, we practice waiting in the presence of God a lot.

We find this so hard to do because I think we don’t practice it enough. We find it so easy to be quiet and alone on our phones yet we find it such a struggle to do the same before God.

Relationships and friendships come out of spending time together. And our friendships are good because we spend that one-to-one time together. So we need to do the same with God.

Jesus even spent alone time with God, we see this time and time again throughout the whole Bible. So Jesus spent alone time with God before he made a big decision, like when he was choosing his disciples.

Jesus spent alone time before God when he was grieving, like when he heard about John the Baptist’s death.

He spent alone time before God, like when he was about to serve others or to find rest. How can we ever expect to have a deeper relationship with God if we don’t spend time with him like Jesus did?

We know that Jesus did this but he also tells us as his disciples to do the same. We read in Matthew 6 verse 6 where it says,

But when you pray go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. Then your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

Matthew 6:6

We know that when we do this we need to draw near to him and he will draw near to us. And so I want to encourage you this week just to spend that alone time with God and really just press into him.

I pray you would all have a really blessed week!
