Finding Faith In Uncertainty – Thought For The Week

Vicki shares her thought for the week; finding faith in uncertainty.

I wonder if you’ve ever been in one of those situations where you feel like you’ve got a handle on the direction that God is taking your life? Or perhaps you feel like you’ve got a sneaky peek or an idea about your next steps? And then it all just seems to go wrong or it all just seems to go in a completely different direction?

I’ve had it recently where I truly felt that I was on the verge of a great miraculous healing testimony. And then it just seemed to fall apart and it can really shake us and be quite unsettling for us. And there are times in the Bible where perhaps people were looking up and going, “What is going on? I just don’t get this.”

Perhaps when the disciples saw Jesus being taken away? Perhaps when they saw the crowds calling for Barabbas to be released? Perhaps when they looked at David stepping forward to try and take down Goliath? They may well have looked up and thought, “Really? This is what’s going to happen?” But when those unsettling times come, just as I have, perhaps you want to have a look at Job.

In Job 38, God reminds Job of how sovereign he is. He says,

Have you ever traveled to where snow is made, seen the vault where hail is stockpiled, The arsenals of hail and snow that I keep in readiness for times of trouble and battle and war? Can you find your way to where lightning is launched, or to the place from which the wind blows?

Job 38:22

And I think in those times there’s a phrase that I’ve heard before where it says that God is painting on a canvas bigger than we can even imagine. So those times when perhaps it seems like the plan hasn’t gone the way you wanted it to or the way that you thought God was taking it. We don’t know about the big picture. We don’t know about what part of God’s plan is interlinked with that small moment. But we are called to trust God. God has the bigger picture. We’re just asked to trust him that he’s painting the right picture. Have a good week!
