Debbie shares her thought for the week; living in the moment with God.
Happy New Year! The decorations have come down, we’re heading back to work this week and all of the Christmassy stuff has disappeared. You’ve probably heard the words new year, new start, new me, loads over the last couple of days. It’s a time for resolutions, things that you’re going to do differently. Maybe the new year fills you with a sense of anticipation and excitement or maybe with a sense of dread. However you are approaching 2025, I hope this little thought will encourage you.
One of my favourite songs is by an artist called Jeremy Camp and it’s called In The Moment and the chorus says ‘Oh Lord keep me in the moment, help me live with my eyes wide open because I don’t want to miss what you have for me’. Life can be busy, we fill our time with so many things, work, studies, family, commitments and even our leisure time has become full of doing really fun things. There’s nothing wrong with those, in fact, I’m one of the busiest people I know. I feel guilty when I sit down because that dishwasher is not going to unload itself. But they’re not wrong, but surely we should be looking for something slightly different.
We all have things we need to take care of but we can get so busy that we miss those important moments. The time when God wants to talk to us when God wants us to have that moment with him, when he wants to reveal things to us and when he wants to give us that opportunity to just be still. Life can also be worrying, it can be really anxiety-inducing. We can find that looking ahead to the new year can be quite overwhelming. Perhaps you’re looking at it with worries about finance, about health, about people in your family that you’re really concerned about. Perhaps 2025 is not filling you with any excitement whatsoever. And again it’s easy to get caught up in those worries that we forget to be living in the moment with God.
Matthew 6:34 says:
Do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough troubles of its own.
Matthew 6:34
In other words, don’t worry about what hasn’t happened yet. Live in the moment and leave your worries until tomorrow or in fact leave them with God. Perhaps 2025 is the year that we can be in the moment and not miss what God has for us.
As we move into the new year I really pray that we can be living in the moment with God, that we can stay in those moments long enough to hear him, taking the time before we rush ahead and get on with the busyness of life. Knowing that he loves us and he wants the best for us. If only we will pause for a moment to hear him. Have a good week.
