Barbie shares her thought for the week; obsession.
Recently when I’ve been a bit bored in the evenings I’ve been tending to watch reels on social media. The funny thing is I watch them mindlessly and I watch some of them and I think why on earth am I watching this? One of the things that I’ve seen a lot of is a couple that steal food from each other and eat inordinate amounts of food. I watched a lot about babies that are sick and I just wonder wow, why are we getting these things to watch?
But one of the things I’ve also seen that a lot of lately is people saying that they’re obsessed with something. Somebody gets a new flask and they say I’m obsessed with buying a new flask. So I was wondering, what does obsession mean? Does obsession mean there’s something that fills your mind and makes you think about it constantly? Well, if that’s the case, then is God obsessed with us? Does He not want to constantly think about us? Is He not constantly wanting to do something good for us? Is He not constantly sending goodness and mercy to follow us? Is He not always preparing a table before us in the presence of our enemies?
Does this mean that God is obsessed with us? I looked up obsession in the dictionary and obsession means something that preoccupies or fills your mind to a worrying extent or something that really worries you or troubles you or that you have no control over and that’s not the way that I see God with us. I think that God loves us it’s something that I think is a choice. Love is a choice, that is not a gooey feeling that you have, it’s a choice that you make daily and God makes it daily to love us and give us. In the reels where the woman says they’re obsessed with something. If they’re obsessed with a flask, because it starts leaking they throw it away. But if we do something wrong God doesn’t throw us away, He keeps loving us. He keeps caring for us.
Romans 5 says that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. We didn’t have to do anything to make God send his only Son to die for us, He did it because He loves us. He did it because He chose to do it. He asks us to choose to love Him too. He asks us to choose who we will serve. He asks us to choose to serve Him to love Him to worship Him to give that time and money for him. But He does it because He loves us.
I’m going to finish this by reading from Romans 8 about God’s love for us
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:31-39
Now that’s love! God bless you.
