George shares his thought for the week; remembering to pray for our government.
So today I find myself in the pass of Westminster and behind me is the central lobby where members of Parliament and members of the House of Lords will gather sometimes to meet with members of the public to talk about issues of the day and it reminded me of the passage in Isaiah 9 when we read the prophets saying,
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders
Isaiah 9:6
And Jesus, in the book of Matthew, is recorded as saying,
All authority in heaven and on earth is given to me.
Matthew 28:18
We need to take encouragement from the fact that the earthly authorities and earthly government have been established by God. God is interested in the affairs of men and women on a daily basis. He has given us governments and we need to engage with governments to ensure that they do the right thing. This is why Paul talks to us about praying for those in authority in the book of 1 Timothy.
We need to pray for those who have responsibility for the affairs of our land. So as we head towards this Christmas period, let’s take a moment just to think about what we can pray for, for our MPs, for our ministers, for the Prime Minister to ensure that they make godly and wise decisions.
Have a good day.
