Making Jesus known to everyone, everywhere

The Lord Is Watching Over You

Zephaniah 3:14-17

To enjoy our journey of faith, knowing His presence and peace, we need to understand that God is watching over us, singing over us!

Here are a number of things to rejoice in this morning! God is singing over me…

Can you feel the wonder of this?  Almighty God interested in me as a person, loving me, rejoicing over me.

  1. ‘I am too guilty? I am too dirty? I can’t hear Him singing over me

But God is singing over me, because The Lord has taken away my judgements. V15

Here is the good news of the gospel, to those who don’t believe  it is foolishness, but to those who do believe it is the power of God’

‘There is therefore no condemnation…

Jesus took our judgement on the cross. ‘It is finished’

He paid the penalty for our sins. ‘Appointed unto men once to die and after this the judgement’

Yes, we will be judged and held accountable for our works of service, but not for our sin

‘O give thanks to the Lord for He is good’

  1. I am surrounded by enemies v15b

I can’t hear Him sing because I am surrounded by enemies. ‘He has cast out your enemy’

‘No weapon formed against us can prosper’

God is on our side, if God is for us who can be against us

‘O give thanks to the Lord for He is good’

  1. I can’t hear Him singing, because God feels too far away from me

V16-17

See: Moses Ex 33v14

See; Heb 13 v5-6

God is always there even when we feel He is far from us.   He is Jehovah Shamma, always there. (sham = At that place…) God will not abandon you.

God is not far off, distant not interested in our lives.

Ps 109v7-12

See: Dan 3v25

Hardly a verse in all scripture sums up the heart of God for His people than Zep 3v17, understand the reality of God’s nearness to you this morning, the depth of His love toward you.

‘He will rejoice over you with singing’

God the Father sings over you in who you are.

Sometimes we can have an identity crisis; our identities are built around what we do, our performance, our works. God rejoices over you in who you are, a child of God

The world is in the business of convicting you that you are nothing.

God has loved you with an everlasting love, nothing can separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.

‘He will exult over you by singing a happy song’ v17 (NLT)

To exult means to show off or feel elation, or jubilation as a result of a success.

Do you know that God sees you as a success?

He will quit you with His love v17

‘With His love He will calm all your fears’ NLT

How often do you allow God to calm all your fears with His love? (‘look to the birds…’

‘Be still and know that I am God’

His desire is to bring you to a quiet place, a place of peace and calmness for your soul, free from worry and stress
