Sharing The Eternal Flame – Thought For The Week

Kit shares his thought for the week; sharing the eternal flame in a spiritually cold world.

So it’s mid-November, it’s starting to get cold and as I’m wrapped up warm. This got me thinking about the cliche Christmas scene in a movie, where it’s snowing outside they go back inside to the house where there’s a log fire and they’ve got hot chocolate, wrapped up warm.

It got me thinking about how the physical cold is parallel to the spiritual world that we live in in the fallen world where we are separate from God and around us in general for those who don’t know Christ it is a cold and desolate place spiritually. Many of those people are searching for a place to have warmth, have comfort and they find these things in false flames things such as the pursuit of material possessions, having a bigger car, having a bigger house, and having more money. Maybe it’s relationships, maybe it’s in drugs and alcohol, maybe it’s in parties – it’s anything where there’s a temporary moment of satisfaction that sort of numbs down the fact that they are spiritually dead.

But these flames never last, they are only temporary and usually with things like sin once you’ve done it after the fact you seem to be more separated from God, you seem to be more desperate for something else you end up falling back and then the cycle continues. But for those who know Christ, for those who have and put their lives in Christ, we have an eternal flame – a flame that lasts forever and it’s our duty to share this eternal fire with those who are around us for they are seeking these things, but are looking in the wrong places.

How do we share the eternal flame? Well, we do this by being different. We want to be a people that are different, not those who are drawn in by the false flames, not those who are drawn in by the sins of the world, who are dictated by the desires of the flesh. But instead are people who can say no to these things, because what we have is so much greater and an everlasting life an eternal life with Jesus.

So as you go back out to your workplaces to your schools or whatever capacity that you are in this week, just remember that those non-Christians around you are seeking the thing that you have, so be that beacon of light, be that place of warmth and comfort where they can find rest and have a desire to know what you have. How can you react differently to these things, how you are so secure in your life and how do you have such trust when things go wrong?

So take that with you and go and share the gospel.
