Kevin shares his thought for the week; the daily pocket check.
Earlier this week, I was leaving home for work and I realized this habit I have, which I’m sure we all do! I usually go through all my pockets to make sure I have my phone, my keys, my wallet, my essentials for the day. Later that day, as I was wondering about this habit, it made me question myself if I do any such checks before I present myself to this world as a child of the Most High God. And if I should start doing this, what qualities should I carry?
In Colossians 3.12, Paul says,
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:12
We also see Paul mentions some of these qualities in his letter to Galatians as the fruit of the Spirit. The Spirit of God in us bears fruit to such qualities which make us compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient. We see Jesus as a perfect example of someone with these qualities. Just like Paul urges us to cover ourselves with the armour of God in Ephesians 6, he similarly encourages us to do the same and clothe ourselves with these qualities which reflect the Holy Spirit in us.
So I have decided to check my pockets daily for these qualities before I leave my bed so I can reflect Christ to everyone around me. I’d like to encourage you all to do the same.
God bless and have a great week!
