Esther shares her thought for the week; the perfect gift.
Wow! Do I have a beautiful testimony for you? Are you ready for it? I woke up this morning! How amazing is that?! Something as simple as waking up each morning should be such a powerful reminder of the gift of life.
Each day is a gift from God and every day I breathe it’s the first day of the rest of my life. How do I know that? Well, Psalm 118:24 says that each day is a rich and precious gift from God with new grace and new opportunities.
This is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
That scripture got me thinking about gifts. As you know, some gifts are very precious, like a newborn baby, or an engagement ring. Or best of all, when my granddaughter says to me, “Nanny, I love you all day long.” So when I receive a gift, I say, “Thank you.” I unwrap the gift and enjoy it.
It’s currently February which in the UK is considered the month of love. Indeed, many countries on the 14th of February celebrate Valentine’s Day. Supermarkets and retail shops are full of cards, gifts and chocolates. Yum, yum! Restaurants are packed full and florists are selling bouquets and roses by the dozen. Valentine’s is not just about romance, it can also be a month of self-care, self-love and self-reflection. On the flip side, it’s a great time to honour God and undertake some small acts of selflessness.
Now, the concept of selflessness is a difficult one to embrace. Thankfully, God has given us the ultimate example, which is that He sacrificed His only begotten Son. Jesus gave up everything, willingly, lovingly and selflessly. He sacrificed Himself for us so that we can have eternal life. The perfect gift from the perfect one. In 1 Corinthians 13, 4 Paul instructs us to display that selflessness. He wrote,
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
1 Corinthians 13:4
Everybody wants to feel loved and the greatest love anyone can feel is the love of the Lord. It’s unearned, unfaltering and unending.
Today, I pray that everyone who has these words will experience personally the genuine and life-changing love of the Lord. Until next time, love you all day long!
