George shares his thought for the week; when you feel that God has let you down.
I wonder if you’ve ever felt like God has let you down. Something in your life hasn’t gone the way you thought it should, the way you thought God was leading you and you feel God’s let you down.
You know, when you read through the Psalms in the Old Testament, there’s lots of heart-pouring out from David and other Psalmists about situations in their own lives where they felt alone or isolated, felt far from God. And you know, even Jesus himself, part of the Godhead, part of that intimate relationship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit at a time when he felt isolated.
In Matthew 27, we read in his crucifixion, he cried out,
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Matthew 27:46
Quoting Psalm 22, where the Psalmist was also feeling the same,
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Psalm 22:1
And what happened after Jesus called out to God in that way? Father, why have you forsaken me? Well, he died. You’re probably thinking now, well George, that’s not a very encouraging word to bring on a Thought for the Week video! But you know what? He died. He was put into a tomb. But three days later, he was resurrected and he fulfilled the purpose of his existence on earth, which was to bring our salvation. God had a plan. And even the death of Jesus wasn’t going to stand in the way of that plan.
Indeed, that was all part of the plan. And you know, we serve a God who empties graves and he’s the same God as he was yesterday, the same God as he is today, and the same God as he is in the future. I mean, you know that all things work together for good.
So when you do feel that God has let you down, he hasn’t. It’s all part of the plan. Just reach out to him and say, Lord, why do I feel forsaken and let him show you the way ahead. Remember, we are eternal creatures. But above all, we serve the type of God who empties graves.
God will never let you down. Have a good week.
