Worship In Your Quiet Time – Thought For The Week

Aaron shares his thought for the week; worship in your quiet time.

This month at All Nations we have been looking at one of our core values as the church, worship. And at the beginning of this month in our One Big Church service we looked at worship and the number of ways that we can worship God with our lives; that it’s not just singing but it’s actually us giving our time, it’s our finances and a number of different other things.

But I would love to talk this morning very briefly about singing and making a joyful noise to the Lord. Psalm 100 says:

Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth, worship the Lord with gladness and come before Him with joyful songs.

Psalm 100:1-2

What I love is I know that this is not reserved for a Sunday morning but we can come before Him with joyful songs throughout the week. And I know maybe that’s easy for me to say as a musician, but you don’t have to play an instrument and you don’t have to be able to sing! You can make a joyful noise to the Lord and that’s what I’m going to encourage you to do this week.

I know for many of us when we think of our quiet time with Jesus, maybe this is a generalisation, but many of us will be very familiar with just spending time in our Bible, many of us will be familiar with prayer in our quiet time and those are right and proper and keep doing those things. But I wonder how many of us spend time worshipping in our quiet time, just spending time in His presence, just waiting for Jesus to speak.

And so I’d love to challenge you this week to set aside a chunk of your quiet time this week to spend time in worship. Some of the things that might help you might be putting on a song that you can worship along to. As I said you don’t have to play an instrument, you don’t have to be able to sing, you just have to get before Jesus. And it says come before Him with joyful songs. So that’s what I’m going to encourage you to do, just to wait on Jesus and enjoy His presence this week.

Lord, I thank You so much that You long for us to come close to You, You long for us to come near to You. And Lord there’s something about when we’re hungry, Lord You respond to our hunger. And so Lord I pray that as part of our quiet time this week when we’re spending time with You, Lord we’d be able to quieten everything else around us, Lord, and focus our attention on You and just enjoy Your presence and worship You.

Lord help us to do that in Jesus name, Amen.
